"We are each other's shelter from the storm."
SUPERMAN/WONDER WOMAN #6

One day I walked into a library and my eyes fell on a book called Kingdom Come. I picked it up and to my surprise it was a comic book...or rather as I later learned, a graphic novel. But I saw beautifully painted panels and heroes that I recognized from my childhood who seemed ...well, grown up. I borrowed that book and I was moved and fascinated by, not only the story of men and women who are great heroes, but by they way they showed their humanity. They suddenly were not two dimensional people who just fought bad guys. They were deeply complex. I love books and reading on the whole and I guess getting into the comic genre as an adult woman was a case of serendipity. It led me to finding DC comics and the heroes I grew up with on TV and saw in movies and newsprint. It led me to finding Clark Kent or as he is known by his other name, Kal-El, and Princess Diana. I fell in love with them and am obsessed with all things Amazonian and Kryptonian now. I love their relationship. I love what they stand for. I love the contrasts of the princess/farmer's son; reporter/ambassador; pragmatic warrior/idealistic protector and empathetic teacher/enforcer of justice. A girl born of the earth and a boy who fell from the sky. The first daughter of Themyscira and last son of Krypton. And it surprised me to find that there were many fans like me, who adore them too.

DC rebooted their universe in 2011 and my favorite pairing is now canon!!! Yay.

Action Comics # 1 Variant Cover by Jim Lee

So here is a really nice version of the new Superman suit. While we all love and are accustomed to the classic, I think he looks regal. The Kryptonian armor certainly gives him a princely aspect which I like and I have often wanted DC to explore that side of Superman's heritage more. You know, contrast this with Rags Morales jeans, tee and workman boots look there is suddenly something compelling and about the character who is, end of the day, a man of two worlds. If I get a nice shot of Clark Kent in his work clothes in the Superman title later on, I'll put all three up as well.

DCU Elementary by Tom Bancroft

This is a series aimed at kids that was never published by DC. It was done by tombancroft.
Here are a few images that feature kid Superman and Wonder Woman and the other heroes. They are all adorable and full of character. What a shame DC passed on this.

Henry Cavill In the Superman Suit

WB Promo Image Man of Steel

First image of Henry Cavill in the new suit. Action and power personified in the pose. Refreshing not to see him in the usual upright Superman pose, arms folded or akimbo. The muted colors and texture on the suit I expected because this is for contemporary audiences who want their heroes look a little edgy and sharper. Bright primary colors I don't think we will be seeing on the big screen. I am not sure if he is wearing red trunks. I always found Cavill very charismatic and when he is behind a moving or still lens, one is inclined to just watch him.  It's a quality Chris Reeve possessed and which a Superman must have. Routh, Cain and Welling were all rather bland, unremarkable versions in my opinion even if they are good looking men. Let's hope this film lives up to expectation.

Pants or No Pants

The Justice League

I wish they would make up their mind really. As far as I am concerned Wonder Woman can wear pants, panties, skirts or hot-pants depending on the medium and audience they are targeting. Her costume has had tweaks throughout the years. Some we loved and some we did not care for.

Costume Changes Through The Ages

I would love to see the warrior skirt for a while. Oh well, it's writing that counts.

More Clark Kent and Princess Diana goodness.

Superman and Wonder Woman by Aaron Lopresti

Now here's a wonderful image by Aaron Lopresti. Wonder Woman sitting atop Superman in a victory pose. It is wonderful because she really could take give him a run for his money. His wry/amused expression is so priceless. It's such a typical, normal male response. It's as if he does not like being trounced and yet in the same vein he does not mind being taken down by this lovely and strong woman. And this image would not have the same humor or resonance with anyone but these two.
