"We are each other's shelter from the storm."
SUPERMAN/WONDER WOMAN #6

One day I walked into a library and my eyes fell on a book called Kingdom Come. I picked it up and to my surprise it was a comic book...or rather as I later learned, a graphic novel. But I saw beautifully painted panels and heroes that I recognized from my childhood who seemed ...well, grown up. I borrowed that book and I was moved and fascinated by, not only the story of men and women who are great heroes, but by they way they showed their humanity. They suddenly were not two dimensional people who just fought bad guys. They were deeply complex. I love books and reading on the whole and I guess getting into the comic genre as an adult woman was a case of serendipity. It led me to finding DC comics and the heroes I grew up with on TV and saw in movies and newsprint. It led me to finding Clark Kent or as he is known by his other name, Kal-El, and Princess Diana. I fell in love with them and am obsessed with all things Amazonian and Kryptonian now. I love their relationship. I love what they stand for. I love the contrasts of the princess/farmer's son; reporter/ambassador; pragmatic warrior/idealistic protector and empathetic teacher/enforcer of justice. A girl born of the earth and a boy who fell from the sky. The first daughter of Themyscira and last son of Krypton. And it surprised me to find that there were many fans like me, who adore them too.

DC rebooted their universe in 2011 and my favorite pairing is now canon!!! Yay.

Superman/Wonder Woman #1 Review

This book was a beautiful blend of heroic action along with personal moments and really solid characterizations of Clark and Diana. The art by Tony Daniel is to die for. The action moments are big and bombastic as befitting powerful godlike heroes and yet the moments when Clark and Diana are together, they are so vulnerable and humanized as simply man and woman in a blossoming relationship.

One of my favorites is the balcony scene where we see how these two contrast together. Soule keeps them truly individual, we see how different they are but then we see how there are many things to connect them. Clark is still very restrained while Diana is confident and both are strong willed. It makes for an intriguing set- up. I can't wait to see Diana teach Clark a thing or two when it comes to martial training. ( I always have them sparring in my fics.)

My next fave scene is where Diana battles Doomsday. The girl is such a badass. I love how the intimate scenes are juxtaposed with the battle scenes.

Also thumbs up for connecting this book to the DCU and the creation of a female Amazon in Hessia who is a positive role model of femininity for Diana and Diana expressing her anger and hurt at her loss of her family. Unlike her own title where the Amazons have been cut out of the narrative while being tarred as killers of men and slavers of male children and Diana rarely seems to mourn them.

My only complaint is that it felt it was over so quickly. I needed more but a great start to our power coupl'e series. I give this 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Justice League #23

The Trinity War ends here. From and Clark and Diana pov we find out why he is sick and what his greatest desire is the influence of Pandora's box. Yeah, he isn't happy with Batman so much. Plus we find out who the mole is in the JL.

The Crime Syndicate from Earth 3 makes their appearance.

Batman/Superman #4

This whole Earth 2 meets Earth prime felt a little pointless in terms of the wrap up. Entertaining as heck but the typical...meet a version of your self from AU and then have your memories wiped. What was the point? To compare the old verse to the new? To say what exactly? The old is better than the new because they what? Have it all? I get heroes might be more inclined to be optimistic if their city is a utopia and they got great marriages and they all get along and everyone loves them etc. But couldn't they be a little less condescending and preachy? You'd think they would be seeing they have so much bounty.

Batman/Superman #3

It's funny how young Clark wants to protect Wonder Woman here.

While Lois complains to Clark about Diana.

Justice League Dark #22

This issue has the league splitting into factions. The Justice League Dark gets pulled into this now. I'm not going into much details. All we need to know is that nothing and no one is going to stop Diana from helping Superman and she gets some help.

Justice League of America #6

The JLA fights the JL over the death of Dr Light.

Superman stops them.

The JLA take Superman into custody. Diana believes Pandora's Box is the cause of Clark's lost of control and she decides she is not going to sit by while he is incarcerated. She is going to help him.

Justice League #22

The Trinity War begins.

In this issue we have a face-off between the Justice League and Justice League of America. Tension are high since Superman and Wonder Woman went into Khandaq.

We have another conversation with Clark and Diana that is left hanging about the way they deal with criminals. We all know Clark and Bruce don't believe in killing. Diana on the other hand, if she has no other option because she is a warrior, will use lethal force. I am hoping one day these two have the conversation that deals with this. To show that she admires Clark for his stance/mercy and Clark believes in her enough to know that she would only use lethal force if there was no other way. Not because she's ruthlessly efficient because love and empathy has been the core of Wonder Woman. Not vengeance.

Pandora seeks out Superman to open Pandora's box. Because she believes him to be pure of heart.

It does not go well because Superman get possessed by the skull. Luckily it's temporary. He comes back to himself while Pandora vanishes with the skull.

The Justice League are alerted to Khandaq when they learn Shazam has turned up there. The JLA also go and things don't go well.

Clark's heat vision seems to have gone haywire and Dr Light becomes a casualty.

Batman/Superman #2

So prime earth younger Batman and Superman meet earth 2, older, preachier Batman and Superman. Basically it's the generational gap dynamic here. The older heroes think they the bees knees and the younger ones are not in a mood to listen. Though age brings wisdom, it can at times brings arrogance and turn off youngsters. Can't say the older guys are handling the younger ones in a good way. Martha Kent is the only one with some sense.

We do see a rather hen pecked older Superman. He's got everything though in this life and Lois wears the pants. She's also a little presumptuous to suggest younger Clark from another universe is missing out on being with her while making older Clark apologize for nothing.

Diana is just Diana. Regal and fierce and young Clark is dazzled. So, he has a natural attraction to Wonder Woman. Makes sense seeing he couldn't keep his eyes off earth prime Diana when he first saw her in Justice League and well, we know what he does not know. He's dating a version of her.

Superman #21

Nothing much with Clark and Diana other than one panel. And in fact the Superman books have not brought her in for several months after #20 so it's unlikely I'll review those books. Now that the Superman/Wonder Woman series is out, books like this won't probably feature her. And Superman is currently going up against more psionic foes and Lois got convenient psionic powers to save his hide. Well, I suppose they have to find a way to put her in stories so why not give the most amazing human woman reporter super powers now.

Justice League #20

There is a fight with Despero in the Watchtower and as we learnt from the last issue a sample of kryptonite ( given to him by Clark) was stolen from Batman's cave.

In this issue Batman lets Superman in on his contingency plans. Okay, so this time Bruce isn't as much a jerk as he was last canon. But he still is on shaky ground imo because he is not sharing it with the team. And then he hits Clark with the plan for Diana. She has no weakness like Clark has kryptonite. Batman deduces her weakness would be...Clark. He is concerned that if Clark is emotionally involved with Diana...he could not do what needed to be done if she went rogue. Personally I think both Clark and Diana can do what needs to be done if either went rogue. Diana proved she could in Sacrifice in last canon. I think Diana would expect no less of Clark either if she did.
