"We are each other's shelter from the storm."
SUPERMAN/WONDER WOMAN #6

One day I walked into a library and my eyes fell on a book called Kingdom Come. I picked it up and to my surprise it was a comic book...or rather as I later learned, a graphic novel. But I saw beautifully painted panels and heroes that I recognized from my childhood who seemed ...well, grown up. I borrowed that book and I was moved and fascinated by, not only the story of men and women who are great heroes, but by they way they showed their humanity. They suddenly were not two dimensional people who just fought bad guys. They were deeply complex. I love books and reading on the whole and I guess getting into the comic genre as an adult woman was a case of serendipity. It led me to finding DC comics and the heroes I grew up with on TV and saw in movies and newsprint. It led me to finding Clark Kent or as he is known by his other name, Kal-El, and Princess Diana. I fell in love with them and am obsessed with all things Amazonian and Kryptonian now. I love their relationship. I love what they stand for. I love the contrasts of the princess/farmer's son; reporter/ambassador; pragmatic warrior/idealistic protector and empathetic teacher/enforcer of justice. A girl born of the earth and a boy who fell from the sky. The first daughter of Themyscira and last son of Krypton. And it surprised me to find that there were many fans like me, who adore them too.

DC rebooted their universe in 2011 and my favorite pairing is now canon!!! Yay.

Young Romance #1 DC New 52 Valentine Special, Review of Superman and Wonder Woman,Truth or Dare,

This comic has several stories featuring couples like Clark and Diana, Batman/Catwoman, Arthur/Mera etc centered around themes of love and romance. The Superman/Wonder Woman one was written by Andy Diggle and it attempted to finally bring Superman into Wonder Woman's world. Something at the time the Wonder Woman writer refused to do. It was very nice to see them together out on a date getting to know each other better and talking about the burdens of secrets.

With Diana, Clark can simply be himself and not have to hide and lie about Superman. Something he does to protect others. Clearly it is a relief for him and he opens up to her and Diana, while confident about herself as a hero, ( Clark has his journalism etc) admits she is still searching for her place in the world after finding out a lot about her life was built on lies.

Their date gets interrupted ( as you do if you are heroes) and they have to deal with the Sirens and Eros. The story has a really clever twist and wonderful ending but it suffers from being way too short. It could have been extended to flesh out more of this couple seeing DC had been sparing with what we had been given so far. Not too keen on the art but I enjoyed it and most fans of this couple will as well.

The Kenneth Rocafort cover is just gorgeous.

Enjoy some pages.

How awesome is that? He stopped Eros' love bullet. While it is magical and it does wind him to catch it, a bullet to Superman is still a bullet. And he already has love in his heart...for her...which is his choice.

Justice League #17 Review

Action packed, gorgeous art, and the tie up ( well in JL at least) to a really excellent crossover event.

The team finds out that Vulko is responsible for triggering the War because he wants Arthur to take back the throne. Arthur feels guilty and responsible for what is taking place only fuels fears about meta humans.

This issue basically has him facing off with his brother, Orm, to try to get him to surrender. The League are really supporting Aquamam in this issue because the story is driven by themes of duty, family loyalty etc but the pages with them in battle adds to grand spectacle and drama unfolding. The story ends on a sad note because we see one of the greatest casualties in the war is the relationship between brothers. I give this story 5 out of 5.

Again I am putting up pages that have Clark and Diana in them.

The repercussions? Arthur going back to Atlantis to try to keep the peace, the League considering opening their ranks, Amanda Waller plotting and villains getting organized.

Superman #17 Review

I really enjoyed this last issue. It ties up the H'el crossover which was a lot of fun and it was cool to see the villain, H'el explored and the Super family come together for the first time in the new 52.

Superman meets the Oracle.

H'el is fighting Diana and Kara while Superboy is trying to bring down the star chamber.

Superman returns to take on H'el.

H'el proves too powerful for the heroes and it's left to Kara to save the day. She literally delivers the fatal blow risking her own life. It's neat to see how Diana understands what Kara is doing and why before Kal does.

Kara is taken away to be treated at the Fortress but as we see via the Oracle the threat to the universe still exists.

What was nice about this issue was not only the action and to see the Supers work together and develop their first real connection as kin but to see how seamlessly Diana fit into picture She felt a part of the super family and played an important role even if she was art wise very much in the background as support. In this crossover I felt she seemed to have bonded more with Superboy and I would love to see more of her with him and her and Kara's relationship develop further. in the future because they had a close relationship pre-reboot. Kara also got to finally be heroic by making an even bigger sacrifice when she betrayed H'el.

The surprise in this issue is at the end. While we think H'el is dead, he isn't. He got his wish. He is on Krypton but back in time to when Jor-El is a young student. What does this mean for the El's, Krypton and even Kal himself?

I give this 4.5 out of 5 and looking forward to seeing Krypton in the new 52.

Supergirl #17

This is issue is basically a Kara/Diana battle. While they fight, so do Kal and H'el.

The fight ends with Diana's experience being the factor that decides the winner. She tries to get Kara to see the truth about H'el.

This issue was essentially a punch-up and laying out ability wise why Diana might beat Kara ; there was no real personal connection established between them.

I give this 3.5 out of 5.

Superboy #17 Review

H'el has begun to drain the sun to power activate his star chamber and the League with Superboy needs to stop him. The plan is to destroy the star chamber.

Of course the heroes designated to do this are the ones with the power to take on H'el and Supergirl. Batman and Cyborg go to help the Flash with rescue  operations. Look at Batman's face. Heh. Sourpuss.

H'el attacks.

Superman sends Diana to help Superboy.

But before she could get to him,Superboy tangles with Supergirl.

Kara who believes in H'el is not going to allow anyone to stop them from going back to Krypton. Diana arrives.

I quite enjoyed this issue and this crossover so far. I give this 4 out of 5.
